Pons was formed in the summer of 2018 in North Carolina by longtime friends and collaborators Sam Cameron and Jack Parker. Pons combines elements of post-punk, garage rock, and no wave with the grandiosity and image of a glam rock band, but the group is truly defined by a constant sense of forward movement and unpredictable change. The first Pons EP, They Look Like People, is an experimental and psychedelic combination of manic punk music and lush, synth-driven soundscapes.

Pons quickly followed their debut EP with 2019’s Being The Prey and Dread, two EPs that saw the band moving in a more angular, dancy, and post-punk direction while maintaining the freewheeling, experimental sound upon which the band was founded. After a successful US tour supporting their Dread” EP and relocating to Burlington, Vermont in 2019, Pons added second drummer Sebastien Carnot to the lineup and further pushed the band in a more angular direction. Pons spent 2019 and the beginning of 2020 relentlessly touring throughout the northeast United States and Canada and made a name for themselves with their unhinged, off-the-wall performances. At one of these highly theatrical shows, one could expect to see Pons clad in extremely formal, business-like attire, athletic equipment, animal masks, or all of the above. And, if you didn’t see a member of Pons getting violently tossed through the crowd at some point during the show, you probably weren’t paying attention. The debut Pons album INTELLECT was released on September 17th, 2020 to acclaim from fans and underground press alike. Pons continued their increasingly prolific output with BIRD AND BOY, a live album and film released on December 31st, 2020. On May 28th, 2021, after relocating once again to Brooklyn, New York, Pons released LELAND (CLUB MIX) alongside a music video shot by LA-based film collective Lazy Eye. LELAND saw Pons taking their sound in a more abrasive and electronic direction in the vein of a group like Death Grips, Suicide, or Crystal Castles. LELAND is the first taste of the upcoming Pons EP “The Pons Estate,” which will be released on August 13th, 2021 and will be featured on the front page of Bandcamp in the “New and Notable” section on August 16th. The Pons Estate sees Pons moving in a more glam rock influenced direction with a kaleidoscopic array of influences and searing, in-your-face production.
